Advice for Nursing in Public
From Karen White of Montreal
Here's some advice I've been giving every new mom in our breastfeeding
support group about nursing in public:
- Give people who look at you a smile - it shows that you're
comfortable, and that makes them more comfortable (or sometimes ashamed of
not being comfortable, which is also a good thing.)
- Give people who look disapproving a BIG smile. And remember that
every time you breastfeed in public, it makes it easier for the next woman
who would like to do so.
- Every time you see a mom breastfeeding in public, make eye contact (if
she's not trying to hide!) and give her a nice encouraging smile. We all
need to know that our efforts to take the best care possible of our babies
are admired.
